Update (12/10/2020): Redwood Tree Replacements at Allderdice
Special thanks to Ray Baum and Dalia Belinkoff for helping to make this happen with a financial contribution. Thank you to Jake and the Team at Tree Pittsburgh for taking care of the planting!
07/27/2020: Alderdice’s Trees
2020 has been a stressful year for us all – including the trees at our very own Allderdice High School! The trees are all alive, but need a bit of extra love, attention, and water right now.
Our friends at Tree Pittsburgh have generously offered to water the trees every Wednesday, but we still need volunteers to water them on Mondays and Fridays.
If, like most of us, you have never watered the trees at Allderdice (or used a Gator Bag to water trees in general), please join us at Allderdice this Friday at 9:30am for a quick tutorial. Masks are required.
Can’t make it on Friday? You can still volunteer! Contact jake@treepittsburgh.org with questions.
Tree Pittsburgh has installed “Gator Bags” on all of the trees to make watering a bit easier. These bags hold 20 gallons and are designed to release the water slowly over the course of several hours.
To use the gator bags, simply put the hose in the hole at the top of the gator bag and let it fill up. Note: Don’t put the hose in the area between the gator bag and the tree. Look for the hole that actually fills up the bag.
Here is a video that shows you how to use a Gator Bag:
Please be sure to spool the hose back up when you’re done and make sure the water is turned off!!!
