About Squirrel Hill Magazine

Squirrel Hill Magazine® (SHM) is a free service provided by the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition (SHUC) to the residents of the Squirrel Hill neighborhood. Printed three times a year, SHM brings news, updates, and entertainment to our readers. SHM is mailed directly to businesses and homes in Squirrel Hill and is available at four local drop off locations: the main entrance of the Jewish Community Center on Forbes Avenue, the Squirrel Hill Giant Eagle, the Squirrel Hill branch of the Carnegie Library, and the Wightman School Community Building.

The magazine needs your support! SHUC decided to give this gift to the community because we believe that Squirrel Hill needs a way to know what’s happening here, to celebrate people who are doing good in the community, and to learn more about each other and create connections in our neighborhood. Since 2008, SHUC has provided Squirrel Hill Magazine free of charge to you and the community. We write articles, take photos, hire an editor and designer, secure ads, and pay for the printing and postage for 11,372 copies mailed to every address in Squirrel Hill. And we have never charged readers a penny.

Increasing costs and lower advertising revenue are making it harder for SHUC to continue producing and distributing this magazine. We could charge for subscriptions, but we have always believed the magazine should be a resource for everyone. The people who can least afford a resource are often those who need it the most.
