Arbor day has now come and gone. But we hope you had as much fun as we did enjoying the trees of the world. On Arbor Day SHUC proudly participated in the 5th annual, family-friendly event celebrating Pittsburgh’s first public arboretum.
Arbor day Celebration
Since, this day is about are trees what better way to celebrate than making art focusing on those trees by creating art. The art being created at this event took inspiration from artists such as Bob Ross, Klimt, Mondrian, and Taki Katei.
Many of our community members came out to support the festivities. We were so impressed with all of our young artists and seeing all the beautiful trees that everyone made in support of this arbor day celebration.
Thank you to the Friends of Mellon Park, all the volunteers, tabling participants, Ale Gray Sandoval, our very talented tree artists, and everyone who helped make this event successful! Lastly, thank you to Brian Lee and the Allderdice band for the fantastic tunes that brought great energy and made the event more fun!
The Treasure Awards Dinner was created to recognize our neighborhood Treasures, the people and places that make Squirrel Hill a great place to live, work and do business. The Squirrel Hill Treasure Dinner has become an annual celebration and fundraiser for the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition.

Preserving, Improving, and Celebrating the Quality of Life in Squirrel Hill
For over fifty years, the Coalition has been an active and important link in the community. It has served as a sounding board for new ideas, as well as a “watchdog” in the areas of public safety, education, residential quality, the business district, and parks and open space. With its focus on the quality of life in the 14th Ward, SHUC continues to monitor activities and future developments in the community through a range of standing committees.
