SHUC’s Clean Sweep Week was a success!

We are so grateful to everyone who participated in our Clean Sweep Week to celebrate Earth Day and beautify Squirrel Hill for the new season! Participants were invited to clean a location of their choice during the week or join us for our big Community Clean Up on Sunday, April 24th. Around 130 participants came out to clean up the neighborhood throughout the week. Thank you to everyone who took part in cleaning up our community!

This event would not have been possible without our Litter Patrol committee, our volunteers, the participants, and our sponsors. We’d like to give a special shout out to members of SHUC’s Litter Patrol: Barb Grover, Bob Danenberg, Alex Greenberg, and Barbara Jones.

Also, thank you to our sponsors: Allegheny Cleanways, Amazing Books and Records, Commonplace Coffee, Costco, European Wax Center, Fine Wine and Good Spirits Squirrel Hill, Games Unlimited, Giant Eagle, Little’s Shoes, the Refillery x the Local, Riverstone Books, Starbucks, and Uncover Squirrel Hill.

We’d like to congratulate the winners of our photo contest (some of the winning photos are pictured here) and our merchant sponsors who donated prizes to the contest. And finally, a big thank you to Heather Graham from European Wax Center for feeding our volunteers lunch!

about SHUC

Preserving, Improving, and Celebrating the Quality of Life in Squirrel Hill

For over fifty years, the Coalition has been an active and important link in the community. It has served as a sounding board for new ideas, as well as a “watchdog” in the areas of public safety, education, residential quality, the business district, and parks and open space. With its focus on the quality of life in the 14th Ward, SHUC continues to monitor activities and future developments in the community through a range of standing committees.
