SHUC presents Walk Squirrel Hill! walking map to residents at JAA’s Weinberg Terrace
Sophie Bean and Marshall Hershberg with the walking map.
The Coalition presented its Walk Squirrel Hill! Walking Map to around 20 residents at Weinberg Terrace earlier this week. Marshall Hershberg, a SHUC Board Member and head of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, and Sophie Bean, SHUC’s administrative assistant, represented the Coalition.
The hour-long presentation began with an introduction of SHUC, our mission, and recent projects. All the residents received a copy of the walking map to follow along as Marshall guided them through the map’s landmark highlights. The in-person presentation allowed for deeper discussion of each highlight. Weinberg Terrace residents were encouraged to give input and ask questions along the way.
We are so happy to share this wonderful resource with the community and the residents at Weinberg Terrace! We look forward to future presentations of the walking map and more events with Weinberg Terrace residents and other groups in the community.
The walking map is a free community resource created by SHUC’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee and previous SHUC interns. Partner organizations included Uncover Squirrel Hill, the Oakland Transportation Management Association, and the Squirrel Hill Historical Society. Physical copies of the walking map are available at Little’s Shoes, Riverstone Books, Games Unlimited, and the Carnegie Library in Squirrel Hill.
Our sponsors make the Treasure Awards Dinner possible and help SHUC continue advocating for and celebrating the Squirrel Hill community. Thank you for supporting our work and making the 2025 event a success!

Preserving, Improving, and Celebrating the Quality of Life in Squirrel Hill
For over fifty years, the Coalition has been an active and important link in the community. It has served as a sounding board for new ideas, as well as a “watchdog” in the areas of public safety, education, residential quality, the business district, and parks and open space. With its focus on the quality of life in the 14th Ward, SHUC continues to monitor activities and future developments in the community through a range of standing committees.
