Throughout the stay-at-home order, SHUC hosted weekly porch parties to help Squirrel Hill residents connect with their neighbors from a safe distance. Our porch party series is now over, but here are some highlights:
Cartographers – A Family Game Event with Games Unlimited (June 8)
We had a blast playing Cartographers with Kylie Prymus from Games Unlimited! Kylie is an expert on all kinds of games and does a fantastic job explaining them. To watch the video of our event and learn how to play Cartographers, click on the image above! The rules for Cartographers are available online here, and the game uses the sheet below.
Games Unlimited is now open for curbside pickup and is offering free virtual consultations to help you pick out games!
Sunday Singalong with Sunburst School of Music (May 31)
Thanks to the Sunburst School of Music, Squirrel Hill residents were able to sing some of our favorite songs together (including, of course, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”) while remaining safely on our own porches (video available here).
Sunburst is currently offering virtual music lessons so you or your child can learn music from home!
Yoga from a Distance with I Am Yoga (May 17)
While we unfortunately had to cancel our yoga porch party due to technical difficulties, those who signed up were still given access to yoga videos from I Am Yoga that they could follow along with from home!
If you like the yoga videos, I Am Yoga is continuing to offer virtual classes as they determine how to safely reopen their studio.
Litter Patrol will host group and individual clean-ups the week leading up to the Earth Day cleaning event from Monday, April 21st, to the in person event on Sunday, April 27th, from 9 am -12 pm starting at Forbes and Murray in front of the Squirrel Hill Carnegie Library.
Litter Patrol will also be hosting group the Earth Day cleaning event. They will also be hosting individual clean-ups the week leading up to this event from Monday, April 21st, to Sunday, April 27th!
The SHUC Board Meeting is in-person only. All 2025 board meetings will be hosted at the JCC, on the 3rd floor in Board Room 318 on the 3rd Tuesday of the month except July and December.

Preserving, Improving, and Celebrating the Quality of Life in Squirrel Hill
For over fifty years, the Coalition has been an active and important link in the community. It has served as a sounding board for new ideas, as well as a “watchdog” in the areas of public safety, education, residential quality, the business district, and parks and open space. With its focus on the quality of life in the 14th Ward, SHUC continues to monitor activities and future developments in the community through a range of standing committees.
