New Gear Retailer Hosts Grand Opening Festival Near Frick Park
3 Rivers Outdoor Company (3ROC), Pittsburgh’s new, independent, locally owned outdoor gear retailer, will host its Grand Opening Festival the weekend after Memorial Day, June 1-3.
To highlight the company’s plan to be a gathering place and jumping off point for the outdoor community, the weekend-long event will include group bike rides and runs in Frick Park, and a group paddle on the Allegheny River, along with other activities. Festivities will also include charity raffles and live music throughout the weekend, beer from East End Brewing Company, and local food trucks (schedule attached). In partnership with the The Wheel Mill bike park, 3ROC will have a mountain bike demo fleet from Specialized available for test rides. The celebration will kick-off Friday evening at 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting, followed by live music by the Sweaty Already String Band and screenings of selected outdoor films by Patagonia and others film makers on the 3ROC patio – located next to D’s Six Pax & Dogz on Braddock Ave in Regent Square.
With retail space on Braddock Avenue – a few blocks from Frick Park – 3ROC features new and used outdoor gear as well as an adventure planning station designed to be a spot to get together for outdoor activity plans. As part of their company goals, Chris Kaminski and Christine Iksic plan to partner with outdoor nonprofits for fundraisers, host meet-ups and other events through the shop.
In addition to giving gently used gear a second life, 3ROC is putting an emphasis on sustainability. The store features new apparel and gear from vendors like Patagonia, as well as smaller-market and local niche companies that emphasize eco-conscious practices and nonprofit ventures. The store itself also features repurposed wood décor from Frick Park and throughout the region crafted by local wood workers.
3 Rivers Outdoor Co. is now open with operations Tuesday through Sunday leading up to the June 1 festival.
