O’Connor’s Corner: Completed and Open!

O’Connor’s Corner Ribbon Cutting on April 23rd.

This past month SHUC held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize the completion of the parklet at Phillips and Murray which was named in honor of the late Mayor Bob O’Connor. Corey O’Connor and his family were able to join the celebration along with Senator Jay Costa, Representative Dan Frankel, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, and Mayor Bill Peduto.  SHUC was able to thank all our elected officials who helped with securing funding and services to bring this project to fruition.  We hope that residents and visitors will enjoy the respite area with comfortable benches, planters, and shade trees.

For over fifty years, the Coalition has been an active and important link in the community. It has served as a sounding board for new ideas, as well as a “watchdog” in the areas of public safety, education, residential quality, the business district, and parks and open space. With its focus on the quality of life in the 14th Ward, SHUC continues to monitor activities and future developments in the community through a range of standing committees.
