“Run-Forward” Trail Proposal

SHUC’s Bike-Ped Committee is working to support the development of the “Run-Forward Trail” from “The Run” to Monitor Street. This trail system will connect Squirrel Hill with Greenfield, Hazelwood, and Oakland (and, by extension, Downtown).

The Run-Forward Trail would improve the accessibility of the Forward-Murray area and provide access to major development nodes like SouthSide Works, Pittsburgh Technology Center, and Hazelwood Green. This would create new recreational opportunities for users of all ages and experience levels. It would also reduce automobile dependency in Squirrel Hill and Greenfield, which could improve air quality and reduce congestion.

The trail proposal involves a number of related local improvements for pedestrians and cyclists. These include crosswalks, bikeshare stations, improved signals, and traffic calming.
