2nd Annual Lunar New Year Parade in Squirrel Hill

Come celebrate the Year of the Fire Rooster at the Second Annual Lunar New Year Parade in Squirrel Hill!

At 11am on Sunday, February 12, a parade of more than 30 groups will begin their march at Murray Avenue and Phillips. The parade route will continue up Murray Avenue and conclude at Forbes and Murray. Friends and neighbors from all over Pittsburgh are invited to come together to celebrate the heritage and history of Asian Americans.

Chinese New Year Parade Squirrel Hill

This year’s grand marshals are Mike and Grace Chen. Grace and Mike Chen have spent nearly half of their lives living and working in the Squirrel Hill and Shadyside neighborhoods. After the husband and wife immigrated to Pittsburgh by way of Los Angeles, Mike opened a small Asian grocery on Murray Avenue. He has since has successfully opened and managed more than 15 restaurants, including Sushi Too, My Thai, Yellow Tail, and Tamari. His most innovative and, arguably, most popular enterprise to date is Squirrel Hill’s own Everyday Noodles. Specializing in authentic Taiwanese food with a theatrical flair, Everyday has been awarded a quality and authenticity designation by the Taiwanese government.

After the parade, stop into one of Squirrel Hill’s locally owned Asian restaurants for special menu items and prices in celebration of the New Year! Lion dancers will be visiting Squirrel Hill businesses throughout the day as merchants make their offerings for good luck in the new year.

Bring the whole family–and your camera! It’s sure to be a day to remember.
